Gluten and Goodness

I have a couple of friends that eat gluten free. I am often concerned about what to feed them, just meat and potatoes, vegies? No bread, no pasta, no soy sauce?????

A recent ARTICLE about her talks about her sweetie, the chef, as she calls him. He was so enamored by her and her food restrictions, he turned the bar where he works into a gluten free menu. Can it be true? He cooks here, according to the article.

I just started reading the gluten-free girl by shauna ahern, so here is a link to her blog. She takes pictures of the food she loves, because she considers it art.

My experience with gluten free stuff is that it generally doesn't taste all that great, especially baked goods. They tend to be very dry and crumbly. Ick! I used to get these gluten-free cupcakes from Whole Foods because they had really awesome chai flavored frosting. I would lick the yummy frosting off and then throw away the dry, crumbly, part.

Adam, I just cooked one of the recipes in GlutenFreeGirl's book and it was good (not a baked item, though, not yet) I wonder if it's possible. Like a guy said to me at a nearby coffeshop when asked if the gluten free cookie was good...he answered, "pretty good, but if you can eat gluten, I'd get something else"

Maybe it's only the baked goods D.Lisa. Maybe the science of gluten-free has yet to catch up with the age old tradition of gluten baking. Maybe some day...
