Interesting People

We all love to meet interesting people. Just what is it that makes one person more interesting than another however?

There have been many conversations about this topic. Some people are just naturally interesting but you can also learn to become more interesting.

Several things that I love about interesting people is their passion about specific subjects and their quirkiness.

Usually interesting people have interests in something outside of my expertise or experience. Maybe it's old sewing machines, or new technologies. It might even be something like how many different kinds of Hummingbirds there are in Washington. I had no idea there were four different types that called Washington home.

I also love their quirkiness and their willingness to not hide the fact that they are unique. So many people try to hide the things that make them different. This can be with clothes, ideas or even lifestyles. I know a woman who got tired of her hair color and although she is well about the age of senior citizen, she now sports a short vibrant purple hair style.

As I'm learning new things this year, I'm going to try and meet more interesting people and listen to their stories.  I'm sure that I will have some things to share with my friends as we move through the year.

Thinking of Spring

Even though the first day of winter has not even arrived, I'm starting to dream of spring. I'm thinking of green grass, flowers and of course sunshine and warm weather.

One of the interesting ideas that I just came across was to paint a faux floor rug on your deck. Oh, this one has me thinking. What ideas are you dreaming about for srping?

Dog gone, cat stay

What to do when you live with pets, when your home is for sale? Boarding, taking a little vacation, or telling people not to let the pets out? All these and more are tactics I'm seeing in this market.

Greening Seattle

I finally stumbled on the answer to my question,  "who is behind this Greening of Seattle?" I've seen the volunteers and piles of ivy ripped out of urban forests, especially along Admiral Way SW, in West Seattle.

Here is a link to a video on how to make a compost pile in the forest...

Crows in Seattle

I am reading a local woman's book, and noticed three reviews of her work this week. It's a pretty good read, if you like birds, an excellent meditation of the crow's place in city life.

Crow Planet by Lyanda Lynn Haupt is a book to set by your bedside, or take on a trip. Enjoy.

Neighborhood Treasures

Taking a walk the other day came upon several interesting art pieces in/on people's homes. This looks like a birdbath installed upside-down, with a bronze bird and beach glass living on it.
This was a little wood/metal yard angel.

This is a bronze installed on a stucco wall. Orcas and waves.

Driftwood Days at the Beach

Here is a fine image of some driftwood heading past as the tide goes out.

Bird

Here is a little sketch of a bird taking flight, done on two pieces of paper from a journal with tear out sheets. I've been enjoying painting the images on both sides of the page since reading about vacation journaling a couple of years ago.

art for everyone

Here is my friend, Tim, holding his little bird sketch he got at my first art show. Tim is a wonderful cook and an interesting man. He wanted another bird I painted but someone else got that first, while he was serving the marvelous food he prepared for my party. Thanks, Tim!

Birds

Did you know that West Seattle is a stopover spot for many migratory birds? Check this out. I've seen hundreds of these birds lately. At first I thought they were Canadian Geese, but it tuns out they are Brants.
